Roehl has been working in the Government Professional Services Industry for over 15 years. He was with SME Gateway Pty Ltd since its inception in 2003. He was initially the Chief Finance Officer (CFO). From the period August 2010 to July 2015 he was also the Chief Executive Officer.
SME Gateway Pty Ltd is an Australian innovation that has been providing large customers (including Federal and State Governments) with an efficient and cost effective way to access the services and products of small to medium enterprise (SME) organisations.
Since its inception, SME Gateway delivered over $130 million of work to the Department of Defence and other Commonwealth Agencies and provided this work to over 200 Australian SMEs.
ServeGate has now been established as a collaborative business model unique in its industry and possibly in Australia. Its primary focus is to overcome the barriers large customers have in engaging SME capabilities.
ServeGate is exploring other industry sectors as a potentially efficient cog in their supply chain, providing easy and cost effective access to the capabilities of SME organisations.
Roehl has over 30 years of experience in a variety of senior roles that encompass (but is not limited to) senior consulting in large multi-national consulting groups such as Deloitte Australia to chief finance officer of the largest, multinational, multi division, publicly listed residential building and land development company in Australia, AVJennings.
His experience spans a large variety of industry sectors including manufacturing, building, civil infrastructure, health, defence, professional accounting and finance industries.
During his time as CEO of SME Gateway, Roehl brought to bear his extensive experience to assist and mentor SMEs who are starting and growing successful, sustainable businesses. In addition, he facilitated practical collaborations among businesses to successfully prosecute and win large contracts.
Under his guidance SME Gateway increased its annual contract wins from around $11M in the financial year ended 2011 to $27M in financial year ended 2015. All this growth was self-funded and is strong evidence of the customers’ endorsement of the business model’s value proposition. Membership had also grown from 90 to over 200 in the same period.
